Friday Favorites: Nikon D40

I would not call myself a photographer by any stretch of the imagination. But I do enjoy being behind the lens from time to time. In my efforts to find a low cost DSLR I came across the D40 by Nikon. Nikon has been making cameras for years. They are one of the staple brands of the industry, though this is not what drew me to the D40.

First the D40 is weightless. It was the first thing my wife and I noticed. By the looks of it you may think it weighs a tone. It’s not a chore to lug around all day. In fact, you may not even notice it stowed in a purse or backpack. Having a camera with you instead misplaced at home or in the trunk of the car is the difference between getting the shot or not. You will want to take it along rather than dread the job of carrying around for hours.

Second, it takes great pictures. Obviously the only reason you want a camera is to capture life’s little moments in frame. What good is that if obscure light rays, out of focus subjects and fuzzy pictures are all you capture. The D40 will not let you down. Time after time the shots I get are outstanding. Not that their isn’t room for error. But being light weight and having very little shutter and mirror vibration helps the most amateur photographer (my self included) take great pictures. (See the frame below. My wife and our dog).

Last, the D40 has a great battery life. I’ve taken over 600 shots in a single day without the need to recharge. Something I hate is buying a piece of equipment only to have to purchase second and third “optional” accessories to get full use of the product. No such worry here. Take snap shots until your heart is content and you will have juice to spare.

If you pick one of these little guys up you wont be disappointed. Happy Shooting.

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
