Proverbs 27:19 states, “as water reflects the face so a mans heart reflects the man.” Jesus echoed this sentiment in Mat. 7:20 by saying “just as you can identify a tree by it’s fruit, you can identify people by their actions.” Eventually what’s inside comes out! An excellent example of this principle in action is the “profiles” of social-networking sites. These profiles are created to tell the world who we are but often they become reflection of who we are imagining in our hearts, in our minds. “Some Day Maybe” are the most common profile types. They contain images and language of a life that we hope to some day maybe attain to. Under favorite book may be a list of literary works from Frost to Kierkegaard. Selected music highlights may range from Sinatra to Jay-Z. The “Some Day Maybe” profile is not an outright lie. The intentions are to becoming a well read poetic philosopher enjoying a collect mix of a 50′s crooners and Gangsta Rap. Though the reality is, that may not exactly be who you are, at least currently. At times the “Some Day Maybe” profile is easier to believe in than our current reality.
You have a responsibility to ask for the vision. Then you must polish that vision into something so irresistible that you are impatiently trying to make your life fit your Profile Picture. Like a personal Screen writer, your Building a Better Me Profile should prompt you unconsciously to “be, act, say and think” like your profile would. Scripture teaches us to “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming-it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time (Habakkuk 2:2 MSG).”
We almost always act consistently with Profiles. Either the ones we set up or the ones others have written for us. The fight is the influences that are controlling your Internal Image. What words are you writing down? What is the future your vision is point you to. Just as the horizon charts out a path to a future destination, so can your profile lay a path for a Better You.
