Promotion is such a difficult concept for most ministry organizations. When individuals are standout employees they deserve compensation. I know that the scriptures say “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men (Colossians 3:23).” This should not be used as a guilt setting comment to pacify employees. What if they turned the principle on you. Would you use guilt to get more work out of God, or would you ask him for higher performance with no compensation? I doubt it.
