3 Attitudes of Motivation

Motivation can at times be a bit elusive. I know for myself I seem to loose motivation the longer I have time invested in a project with little or no results. It is possible however to create sustainable MOTIVATION, regardless of circumstances, setbacks or obstacles. But you will need to follow a few simple steps.

Loathing

I know most of the time this word carries negative connotations, but there is actually a positive side to loathing. Not that we should loath yourself or others, rather mindsets, attitudes, behaviors and actions. Loathing comes at an “enough moment.” There is a moment when it becomes apparent that a change is needed and you think or say, “I’ve had enough.” We’ve all had that experience where life has reached the breaking point and the only reaction is, “enough.” Jesus him self had a few of these moments. One was as he was spending the day in the temple and he witnessed the abuse of the sale of sacrificial animals (Mark 11:15–19, 11:27–33, Matthew 21:12–17, 21:23–27, Luke 19:45–48, 20:1–8 and John 2:12–25). He saw the injustice and loathed the practices he saw. His “enough” moment came as he fashioned a whip and drove the money changers from the grounds. His motivation came as he saw sinister forms of using a religious activity to exploit the poor, where will you find your loathing point.

Determination
Determination usually comes from inspiration. Inspiring moments in life have a way of dealing out doses of confidence. Scripture is filled with dashes of confidence building quotations, for example; “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident (Psalm 27:1,3).” As statements like these begin to inspire, confidence grows and determination can set in. Inspired by the truth of phrases like the above we can be determined in out actions, thoughts, attitude and in our reason for our motivation.

Passion
If you want something bad enough you will find a way to obtain it. With Easter fast approaching I am reminded of the “passion” of Jesus. While he covered a wide range of topics in his teachings, he had only one “passion.” That passion drove him the the grinding gears of the crucifixion. While suffering under the weight of the cross  his only focus was his only passion. No amount pain could keep him from fulfilling this passion. His only passion was the reconciling of humanity back to the Father. In all the struggles along his journey he passionate focus kept his motivation and his path. Are you so passionate about anything that you would die for it? The challenge we face is not death to fulfill our passion but rather live in-order to see its completion.

These are simple examples, of course, but you get the idea..  These three states can dramatically alter your motivation.  They will create a mutation in your will power and your motivation will reach all time high levels.
